Getting To Know: Langdon Farms

An Insightful Interview With David Stead, General Manager

By Brian Weis

Whether you have played a course 20+ times a year or looking to play the course for the first time, insights from an insider can help enhance your golf experience. Below is an interview with David Stead who shares some valuable tidbits about the course, memorable holes and must eats and treats at the 19th.

Give Our Readers An Overview of the Golf Course/Property
Ranked as the #1 Course In Oregon To Host Tournaments and Corporate Events and rated four out of five stars by Golf Digest's Best Places To Play for 2010, Langdon Farms Golf Club is home to 18 holes of stunning golf designed by John Fought and Robert Cupp. Langdon Farms Golf Club opened to rave reviews in 1995 and immediately became a favorite in the Portland area.

If Someone Was Looking To Golf In The Area, Why Should They Play Your Course?
Over the years, the local, regional and even national golf writers have consistently recognized it as a truly unique golf experience. The golf facility is open, as displayed at the entrance, to the "PUBLIC ONLY" and specializes in hosting tournaments, outings and special events.

What Tips or Local Knowledge Would You Provide To Help Them Score Better At Your Course?
Our greens complexes have fast, firm surfaces with a lot of runoff areas. Check pin placements.

What is signature hole of each course and why?
Our most photographed hole is #8 (with an original barn), but our most remembered hole is #6. Hole 6 is a short, but very torturous par 3.

Any signature dish at the 19th? Or what must a group of golfers stick around for?
Our grill menu is fairly standard, but what sets us apart if the unique themed clubhouse (the Big Red Barn) and our "down-home" friendly service. To pick a dish after a good round of golf, I would say nothing beats a good cheeseburger and a cold beer.

Recent Awards or What You Are Most Proud About The Course?
Langdon Farms Golf Club has received a "barn-load" of awards and accolades over the years.

All of his life, Brian has been around the game of golf. As a youngster, Brian competed at all levels in junior and high school golf. Brian had a zero chance for a college golf scholarship, so he worked on the grounds crew at West Bend Country Club to pay for his University of Wisconsin education. In his adult years, his passion for the game collided with his entrepreneurial spirit and in 2004 launched GolfWisconsin.com. In 2007, the idea for a network of local golf directory sites formed and GolfTrips.com was born. Today, the network consists of a site in all 50 states supported by national sites like GolfTrips.com, GolfGuide.com and GolfPackages.com. It is an understatement to say, Brian is passionate about promoting golf and golf travel on a local, regional, national and international level.

On the golf course, Brian is known as a fierce weekend warrior that fluctuates between a 5-9 handicap. With a soft fade, known as "The Weis Slice", and booming 300+ drives, he can blast it out of bounds with the best of them.
